PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES

Florida Plywoods runs a vertically integrated operation that few suppliers can match. In our facility, we turn raw wood shavings into our own particleboard, press on hardwood veneers, and finish each panel with precision sanding and cut-to-size machining. Handling so much of the process in-house gives us exceptional control over quality and the flexibility to deliver panels built exactly to your specifications.

Particle Board Production

Our Particleboard Advantage
Florida Plywoods is one of the few hardwood plywood manufacturers that produces its own particleboard onsite. Our particleboard is homogeneous, meaning it has the same particle geometry and resin content throughout its entire thickness. The result is a consistent density profile from face to core, giving the board excellent internal integrity. Kitchen cabinet manufacturers have found that our particleboard machines cleanly in applications where other boards have fallen short.

How Our Particleboard Is Made
Particleboard is produced by combining wood particles with a resin adhesive and pressing them under high heat. Our process begins with shavings sourced from planer mills, which we refine into particles of the ideal size and then dry. The particles are blended with resin and formed into a mat, which enters our steam-heated press where heat and pressure bond it into solid board. Each board is then sanded to a precise, calibrated thickness and cut to size for the next stage of production.

How Our Hardwood Plywood Is Made
Our hardwood plywood begins in the hot press department, where we use either our own onsite-manufactured particleboard or purchased MDF as the core, depending on the needs of the product. Each core is carefully coated with PVA resin, a strong and reliable adhesive, and then paired with the customer's choice of hardwood veneers. Our experienced team lays up each panel by hand to ensure proper alignment and a clean, attractive face. The layups are then loaded into one of our five 10-opening, steam-heated presses, giving us a total of 50 press openings and the capacity to handle both large production runs and specialty orders. Just as in our particleboard process, heat and pressure work together to cure the resin, creating a solid, lasting bond between core and veneer. The result is a flat, stable panel with the strength and appearance our customers depend on for fine cabinetry and furniture.

Sanding & Cutting to Size

In the final stages of production, each panel is trimmed and cut to our customers' exact specifications. The boards then pass through a precision sander that smooths both faces to a consistent finish. Every board is individually inspected and graded to meet our quality standards, and any panel that needs extra attention is hand-sanded by our skilled team before it leaves the mill.
